polyolefin
commonly used for shrink wrapping reams of paper, books or any small part or group of parts.  some polyolefin films can be used in food applications that require fda approval for direct food contact.   this is a very high clarity film that shrink 50/50%. this film requires an air vent and will generally work well on most brands and models of semi-automatic or automatic "L" bar sealers.  common sizes are in stock.

pvc
pvc would be a good choice if your product has sharp edges or points or an uneven shape.  it has greater puncture and tear resistance than polyolefin.  pvc also has variation on percentage of shrink and also direction of shrink.  if a pvc shrink was a type 20/40, it would shrink 20% in the machine direction and 40% in the transverse direction.  pvc is not fda approved and can not be used in food applications.  one drawback to pvc is that smoke often occurs during the seal process requiring significant ventilation in the work area. this film requires an air vent and will generally work well on most brands and models of semi-automatic or automatic "L" bar sealers.  common sizes are in stock.

pvc shrink collars and bags

collars (or sleeves) are commonly used as a security measure on medicine bottles.  available in a variety of gauges, colors, and prints with horizontal or vertical perforation.  all sizes are custom.

bags are used for shrink wrapping a variety of small items, generally in small quantity.  bags are available in rounded tops, commonly used for gift baskets.  these bags are sealed with a tabletop heat sealer and shrunk with a hand held 110v electric industrial heat gun.

polyethylene
bundling films

this single wound low density polyethylene is generally used to wrap bundles of newspaper, cases of bottle water or soda, individual boxes, etc. on bundling equipment.

shrink pallet covers
these are used by covering the pallet with the bag, securing the ends to the load and applying heat with a hand held propane powered heat gun or automatic machine.
boat shrink wrap

this film is a heavy duty shrink film available in blue, white or clear in 6 mil and 7 mil, from 12 feet wide to 36 wide.  it is commonly used to shrink wrap boats during the winter in cold weather areas.  other applications would be any large item that would be exposed to the weather in warm or cold conditions.  i.e. barbecue grills, fountains, motorcycles, atv's, etc.  the films have uvi protection to prevent the polyethylene from breaking down from exposure to ultraviolet rays.  it also has eva added to the film to keep the polyethylene soft and flexible in sub-freezing temperatures.  shrink wrap tape is available for seaming sheeting together.  the shrink wrap is applied by draping the sheet over the item and by applying heat with a hand held propane powered heat gun.

termonology

center folded = this film is folded over in the center.  it will work on any brand or model of semi-automatic or automatic "l" bar sealer and single bar sealers with hand held heat guns.

single wound = this film lays flat.  it has the same application and properties as center folded film.  this film is only used on high production, high speed automatic shrink wrap systems.

machine direction = the direction the film is wound on the roll.

transverse direction = across the width of the roll.

film sizing formula:  TO DETERMINE THE FILM WIDTH OF CENTERFOLDED (CF) FILM REQUIRED TO PACKAGE A PRODUCT IS:

L PLUS H PLUS 2"  (FOR  0 - 2-1/2" HEIGHT)

L PLUS H PLUS 2-1/2" (FOR 2-1/2 - 4-1/2" HEIGHT)

L PLUS H PLUS 3" (FOR 4-1/2" & UP HEIGHT)

uvi = ultraviolet inhibitor

eva = ethyl vinyl acetate
